Morning sunlight streams through windows, yoga mats roll out outside, and the faint aroma of matcha fills the air. Guests stretch, chat, and sip drinks while vendors set up handmade goods, preparing for a day of movement, drinks, and community. On the second floor of 119 Heiman Street in downtown San Antonio, Zen Haus, a café and matcha bar founded and managed entirely by women, has quietly become a hub for connection, wellness, and creativity. Zen Haus not only serves comfortable spaces to lounge, and delicious matcha and coffee, but opened up a space for small businesses and artists to sell their products through showcases, alongside handpicked vintage and thrifted items for sale. Zen Haus also offers a variety of different events to attend throughout each month, ranging from yoga sessions, sound baths, workshops, markets, partys, and the list goes on. What does a Saturday look like in this vibrant space built by women, in the heart of downtown San Antonio? Saturday March 7th, Zen Haus used the day to celebrate National Women's month and Venus weekend. Starting the morning with Mat pilates by Miss Alamo heights Latina. Following with a sound bath from a sound healer. As the sound bath took place different vendors starting setting up for the Women’s Maker Market, showcasing women's handmade small businesses. Featuring beauty products and self care by Smooth Moves by Saleen, to cannabis flower bouquets by Higher Elevations dispensary. The rest of the day was filled with shopping, buying drinks, and enjoying the spaces Zen Haus offers.

With stories from employees, vendors, managers, and even passing strangers, Zen Haus becomes more than just a place for these people. It’s a shared experience, radiating a sense of belonging, connection, and genuine care for everyone who walks through its doors. Even down to management and employees, a constant loving support system. Everyone pushing and inspiring each other to be the best versions of themselves, and more importantly that same message is received by the guests who continue to come back. In a downtown setting often defined by fast-paced activity, Zen Haus offers an alternative, a place where people are encouraged to slow down, connect, and take part in something collective.

Last year she tried pilates for the first time and loved it, which inspired her to teach her own classes. She started because she wanted to push others and inspire them to be the better versions of themselves.

She says, “As an instructor it feeds my soul to be able to help other women feel comfortable with their bodies, to be healthy and to empower them.”

She sells flower bouquets with cannabis leaves, custom pre roll bouquets, smoking accessories, pre-rolls, and flower. She had a shop she sold over a year ago so she could go mobile. She also wanted to rebrand and bring a new name to dispensary's. Cannabis has always been apart of her “me time” and self care. In 2019, when hemp became legal she jumped into the business as a source of income. Through it she found a community of both men and women, but mainly women. Women who are looking for a safe place, somebody that looked like them to buy their flower from. After doing her first market at Zen Haus, The Mothers Day Market. She found a whole other community through Zen Haus that kept her coming back.

She says, “Once I entered it, everything made sense. The people that found me, the people that I found, the income, It just all clicked.”

Because of this she started to make her own products in her household and loved it, she started sharing with family, and eventually started sharing with everyone else.

Her proudest moment is the positive feedback she constantly receives, she says, “Having people come back and telling me how much its helped them, how much they loved the product, and how they cant go back to other things because its really helped their skin.”

Isai calls Zen Haus “an extension of myself.” Zen Haus found him during a hard time in his life, and it became a safe space. What keeps him coming back is the safety of zen, the love, and the peace. He says on the surface Zen Haus offers to the community a unique environment. Its not just a matcha bar, they have unique offerings like markets or different activities. On a more meaningful level, it offers a safe space to allow you to go deeper, deeper inward and into the connections around you.

He says, “Zen Haus offers something deeper than a business, they have a couch, different rooms, its very homey. They have the sweetest baristas, its just a soft place to be.”
